P&O Maritime's Latest 6.1m
This week saw the completion and handover of a Stormforce 6.1 RIB for P&O Maritime. This is the second Stormforce 6.1 delivered to P&O Maritime and the perfect rescue boat for the new Irish Marine Institute Research Ship , RV Tom Crean.
The new ship (which is named after Irish seaman and Antarctic explorer), RV Tom Crean, is Ireland’s new state-of the-art multi-purpose marine research vessel and will be used by the Marine Institute and other State agencies and universities to carry out a range of activities, including:
- fisheries research
- oceanographic and environmental research
- seabed mapping surveys
- maintaining and developing weather buoys
- operational infrastructure
- Remotely Operated Vehicles
The new Rescue boat is fitted with the standard explorer console and a low Lexan® screen to aid lifting operations on and off the ship. The stern mounted A frame features all round white navigation lights and ring buoy holders, essential features on a rescue boat and a part of the Department of P6 safety specification.
Navigation features on this Stormforce 6.1 include a Garmin VHF115i DSC radio with FRP antenna which is linked via NMEA 2000 to a Garmin GPSMap 723xsv GPS plotter, an Echomax base mount radar reflector and a Plastimo 105 offshore compass with back light for night-time operations
This Stormforce 6.1 showcases a Yamaha F115BETX HP four stroke outboard which is considered the leading power-to-weight performer in its class. It features twin camshafts (driven independently) and improved intake and exhaust efficiency to optimise fuel use during combustion. The TCI ignition system ensures easy starting, consistent running and longer plug life. Fuelled by a single 180 litre fuel tank, it has DoM compliant inspection plates and a completely isolated fill system.
This Stormforce 6.1 has been coded to comply with the Irish Department of Marine P6 passenger boat regulations and includes the full complement of LSA required.
